Shelagh MacFarlane, MM, MSc
Counselling Psychologist
I began my private practice in 2005 working with individuals, couples and families with a variety of issues and challenges that are impacting fulfilment, meaningful connections and success. I received training in Canada, United States, and the United Kingdom. My consultations have spanned internationally with personal involvement in humanitarian projects in Nepal, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, and Afghanistan. I am a member of the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA) and the International Practitioners in Holistic Medicine (IPHM).
As a dedicated psychologist, I draw on my own life challenges to empathize and support clients navigating pain. I understand firsthand the courage it takes to meet, heal and integrate difficulties, and I am here to guide you on your journey. During my time in private practice, I have been honoured to support, inspire, encourage, and guide my clients to not only heal and also to grow and thrive through their journeys in life.
My approach is integrative. Incorporating Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) modalities, compassionate inquiry, internal family systems, Gestalt techniques, inner child work, visualization, mindfulness, and somatic healing. I personally tailor to the needs of each individual client by combining elements drawn from different schools of psychological theory and researched based therapy. This, I believe leads to a flexible and inclusive approach to caring and supporting my clients’ healing.
